BIM Establishment

During the last decade, the BIM methodology is being established progressively in several countries. Public administrations are making it mandatory or at least beginning to assign a higher scores to those projects that implement the BIM methodology. They are just following the recommendation of the European Directive of Public Contracting 2014/24 / EU.


Importance of use

The public administration has begun to demand the architecture and engineering studies BIM methodology in public tenders.

As a result, those studies that do not adapt to this new way of working will be ruled out.

This new work methodology also affects manufacturers because those products that are included in a BIM project must be specifically adapted to this standard. The manufacturer is the expected one to provide his own products in BIM format.

It is no longer enough to integrate a drawing of a product in a plan, it is also required the product to be defined with data such as dimensions, weight, wattage, voltage, insulation, reference numbers, etc.

The architect/design studios have to integrate BIM elements on their projects and they will just choose those manufacturers that make easier their work, that is, those that offer their optimized products in BIM format.

Actually, if the manufacturer does not provide their products in BIM format, those studios probably will not include them in their BIM project.
